AG is an important source of dietary fiber. AG increases the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFA's), principally butyrate and proprionate, which are essential for the health of the colon.
AG also acts as a food supply for "friendly" bacteria, in that it helps to increase levels of "good" bacteria such as bifidobacteria and lactobacillus, while eliminating "bad" bacteria.
